Acubriefs Newsletter Volume 2 Issue 12

December 2001

SEIRIN-America along with Oriental Medical Supplies (OMS) suppliers of acupuncture needles and accessories are financial sponsors of Acubrief's Newsletter.

Editor's Note:
This issue of Acubriefs is a departure from its standard format of reviewing recently published articles. For those entering the field of acupuncture, the need exists for knowledge of publications available. Even for some acupuncture veterans, a review of pertinent publications is likely to be of interest.
There are only 3 English-language journals indexed by MEDLINE which contain "acupuncture" in their title. Two of these journals are reviewed below, and the third one, American Journal of Acupuncture ( Am J Acupunct), is no longer being published.
The other MEDLINE-indexed English language journals, with articles frequently related to clinical or research issues concerning acupuncture, are: Complementary Therapies in Medicine (Complement Ther Med), Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (J Altern Complement Med), and Alternative Therapies In Health and Medicine (Altern Ther Health Med). The above list is not complete, and in any given year, a specialty or medical association journal such as BMJ or JAMA may have several articles related to acupuncture.
The five journals reviewed were chosen as being particularly representative of some of the better publications available. (Please visit www.acubriefs.com for a complete list of journals that we subscribe to) If anyone knows of other English-language journals of particular value for review, please contact us. Also, if anyone is proficient in translating titles/abstracts from representative journals in other languages i.e., Spanish, Russian, Japanese, German, French, Portuguese, etc., please contact us at editor@acubriefs.com .

J. K. Rotchford, MD, MPH, editor

Acubriefs Newsletter has three objectives:
1. To provide a centralized resource for reviewing new citations on acupuncture in English.
2. To provide annotated abstracts on citations of particular interest to clinicians and researchers.
3. To facilitate access to citations quoted/reviewed.
(Please let us know if you have suggestions on how we might better meet these objectives)

Reviewers for articles are either members of the MARF board or experts chosen by the board to review articles for particular medical subjects.

Sources for citations are the same as the Medical Acupuncture Research Foundation's (MARF) online bibliography of acupuncture at http://www.acubriefs.com/ . The editor for the newsletter is J.K. Rotchford MD MPH, President of the Medical Acupuncture Research Foundation
